**Credits** — each API request costs credits based on endpoint complexity. Every tier has a monthly allowance (Free 5,000, Pro 50,000, Scale 500,000, Enterprise 5,000,000); requests are metered against it and return 402 once exhausted until the monthly refresh. Credits are charged only on a successful (2xx) response.

Any metered endpoint not listed above costs 1 credit. Backtest status polling (`GET /v1/backtest/runs`) and templates (`GET /v1/backtest/templates`) are free.

**Payment methods**
- **Card (Stripe):** Pro/Enterprise subscriptions managed via Clerk Billing.
- **Crypto (NOWPayments):** Pay with BTC, ETH, USDT, LTC, and 200+ other cryptocurrencies for credit packs.
- **Pay-per-request (x402):** Programmatic clients can pay per-request with USDC at $0.001/request via the x402 protocol.

**Usage tracking** — request count per key is shown on the API Keys page. Per-request logs (timestamp, method, path, status, response time) are retained for 90 days. Rate-limit usage is exposed via response headers in real time.

**Notes**
- 429 means rate-limited — wait for the per-minute window to reset or upgrade.
- 402 means out of credits — purchase a credit pack; tier benefits remain active once topped up.
- Plan changes take effect immediately; remaining credits carry over. Paid tiers have a 3-day grace period after expiry before downgrade.
- Credits are never removed from your balance, but the monthly allowance tops your balance UP TO your plan amount rather than adding to it — so top-ups are best used within the billing period you buy them in.
